As part of the program Ciclo de ciclos. Música en PROA21, dedicated to contemporary sound practices, artist Macarena Aguilar Tau intervenes in the space where Nazareno Pereyra develops a work combining writing and performance in real time.
The performance begins with a singular idea: understanding this accumulation of words, ideas, erasures, and marks as a visual score. The blue pencil that shapes the words ceases to be merely a writing tool and also becomes a generator of rhythm, intensity, and duration.
By observing the graphic marks produced by Pereyra, the artist imagines an acoustic landscape that does not literally translate the words, but instead engages with their physical dimension: the pressure of the hand, pauses, breaks, the speed of the stroke, and the occupation of space. The result is an experience in which sound and writing transform one another.
The intervention also expands the open-ended nature of Pereyra’s residency, a work that takes shape in front of the public and incorporates the everyday exchange with visitors. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to witness this encounter between listening and writing, where the walls simultaneously function as a testing ground and a resonating device.
Macarena Aguilar Tau is an Argentine composer and producer. Her practice primarily unfolds within the fields of experimental music and sound art through live performance. She currently specializes in sound, investigating the amplification of elements from the environment in relation to their vibrational movements, which she materializes in acousmatic works and sound installations. Her experience includes interdisciplinary collaborations in sound design for dance and video. She is also an orchestra conductor and has participated in various contemporary music ensembles. Her work has been presented in concerts, festivals, museums, and galleries in Argentina and abroad. She has received grants and awards from institutions including Mozarteum Argentino, Plataforma Nueva Ópera, Fundación Williams, the Fondo Nacional de las Artes, and Cité des Arts, among others.
